HVDC has many advantages, such as maximizing transmission capacity and large-capacity and long-distance transmission. The advantages have led to a lot of research on HVDC. HVDC system consists of many components such as converter valve, transformer, reactor, etc.
For normal operation of this system, it must be designed to withstand abnormal transient voltages such as lightning and switching over-voltages.
The process of designing to protect system against the abnormal over-voltage is called insulation coordination. This paper explains the insulation coordination design of the HVDC system in KEPCO's Yangju substation. |
